The Legend Begins...
When dealing with a game of this nature that is so big and so amazing, there is no way that anyone could give a review based on all of the components. I hope I do the game justice in this review.
The first thing that I did
after turning on the game was sitting there in amazement while
drooling at the mouth over the graphics and fluid look to the
animation on the opening screen. The graphics
are, shall we say good. I think not. The graphics
in the Zelda are spectacular. The cut scenes seem as if they had
been directed by a big time Hollywood producer. There is no way
to describe how they look. The attention payed to detail in the
game is mind boggling. If you pick up a rock there are sometimes
bugs underneath. When the sun sets right before your eyes and the
sky turns different shades of orange, red, and yellow painted
across the dusk sky, you really feel the time slowly passing by.
The textures and dungeon design get you into the mood of the
area. The sound is simply smashing. It is one of the best scores
I have ever heard in a video game (next to Shadows of the
Empire).
The controls in the game
are rather simple. It took me about fifteen minutes to learn them
and then the rest of the game was playing and not screwing around
trying to figure out the controls. The sword is assigned B button
while the A button takes care of situational controls like
speaking and climbing. The bottom three C-buttons are assigned
items by you in the menu sub screen. At first the
auto jump feature seemed real awkward, but after
you get into the game you get used to it. It becomes second
nature to you. When trying to make a big jump you do not have to
worry about not pushing the jump button in time and accidentally
falling off of the platform. This is the first game to make good
use of hte rumble pak. It helps with the gameplay instead of
distracting you like it did in Star Fox or Golden Eye 007. Try
fishing with the rumble pack in. "It feels pretty close to
real live fishing," Chuggs grandpa, an avid fisherman.
The game is humongous. I have played for at least 30 hours and I still have pleanty of game left to go. The game isn't exactally easy either. Sometimes figuring out what to do next can be a real pain, but once you figure it out a sense of accompolishment is felt. The bosses in the game are oversized and take a bit of strategy to beat.
I have to give the game a 9.9 out of 10. Not a 10 because to me a perfect game is game that you could play forever and not get tired of it. Sure that has to be near impossible to do, but Zelda 64 comes the closest to perfection of any game I have ever played. I recomend this game to any one, especially to those people who are fed up with playing games and beating them in the first week.
